Amsterdam-based practice Standard Studio have renovated a 200 years old stables and storage building into a showroom and guesthouse. The building is located on a mountain in the rugged north of Ibiza. To retain the original character of the building, the authentic “sabina beams” have been preserved and also the original stone walls in the kitchen and bathroom are retained. Only basic materials that were traditionally used in the island are used in the renovation work. For example, iroko window frames, concrete and white chalk plastered stone walls.
The renovated stable is completely self-sustainable with solar panels installed for hot water, floor heating and electricity. Water comes from a private well.
