Rotterdam based architectural firm Arjen Reas Architecten have designed “Out of the Box” villa situated on the edge of Zoetermeer, next to the Bentwoud Park. Inspired by the local building typology, the design of the villa is a contemporary interpretation of the surrounding rural architecture. The villa is closed from the busy street and opens itself towards the garden via several carefully designed terraces. The house was designed in collaboration with Van Voorden Architecture.
The core of the house is designed to resemble an old barn with a black timber cladding and slopped roof. The sleek white boxes interconnected by a white wooden beam house extensions for the kitchen, dining, the study and the garage area. A large opening in the wooden facade allow the inhabitants to move between the terraces and the interior. It also allows natural light inside the villa.
